|
A friend of mine has been clearing his fathers house and came across a crate of cassettes.
My mates dad and I shared similar musical tastes so my mate gave me the crate. No idea what's in it except, from a cursory look, a ton of pre recorded tapes and a few self recorded ones.
I'm planning on going through them, playing each cassette and relay what I discover.

The Lost Weekend (1985) by Danny & Dusty
First up, an album that I already own on vinyl but great to listen to it again
Danny is Dan Stuart from Green on Red and Dusty is Steve Wynn from the Dream Syndicate. Their backing band featured members of Green on Red, the Dream Syndicate and the Long Ryders including such luminaries as Sid Griffin, Stephen McCarthy, Chris Cacavas & Dennis Duck
Allegedly recorded in one weekend, hence the title, itโs rough but immediate and I like that.
Standout tracks, Song For The Dreamers, Miracle mile and The King Of The Losers

Cover (1984) by Tom Verlaine
An OK album but definitely nothing outstanding here. Not sure how often Iโm going to be listening to this to be honest.

FM (Original Soundtrack) (1978) by Various Artists
I never saw the film so cannot comment on whether itโs good or not but this soundtrack is outstanding.
Great playlist of late 70โs classic (I think exclusively, apart from one Queen track) American rock artists and itโs fantastic.
Far too many outstanding tracks to list my favourites. If you love Petty, Miller, Seger, Steely Dan etc. this is compilation for you

Live And Let Live (1977) by 10cc
I was never much of a fan of 10cc although, over the years i acquired a few of their albums.
What this album highlights is what a great live band they were. Some excellent versions of their songs here. Well worth a listen

The Love Songs (1987) by Randy Crawford
Decent enough complication but not really my sort of thing. Not a lot of variation here, which I suppose given the premise of the album, is to be expected.
Delivered very well but rather dull

Delta Momma Blues (1971) by Townes Van Zandt
The best of the crate so far. One that I already own but haven't played in some considerable time
I'm a big Steve Earle fan and you can totally see why he rates TVZ so highly and where an awful lot of his influence can from.
Where I May Lead and the achingly beautiful Rake are the standout tracks for me. Great album

Hollywood Vampires (1991) by L.A. Guns
I wasn't anticipating very much from this album, infact, if I'm going to be honest, I was expecting it to be dreadful but I was pleasantly surprised.
Nothing ground-breaking or particularly original and some of the tracks are very derivative but it's not a terrible listen. Actually, I rather enjoyed it on parts and I wasn't expecting that.

Urban Beaches (1986) by Cactus World News
It has all of the ingredients that I would generally like and A rather U2 feel about this album but not up to that standard I'm afraid. A decent enough album but not really one that grabs me that much
