  • Post subject: Question: mp3 music display application
  • Reply with quote
Hi all,

I have a ton of music and i used to have it all entered into a database, including year of release. However, my computer crashed in 2010 and i didn't create a backup. So for the sake of the top 100 yearly charts coming up on this site, i'd like to find some software that would at least allow me to load in all of my music (in mp3 form) and display what year each album was released in with the ability to sort by year.

Do you know of any application, preferably free or shareware, that does this? I've been checking the last week but haven't found anything.

Thanks for the info

You might want to have your old HD scraped. Often then can recover your files.

I don't think anything like this exists on the website Confused You want to share your yearly charts or find mp3's based on yearly charts being put up by other users?

@RFNAPLES: i paid a couple hundred $ to have professionals scrape my hard drive only to tell me it crashed so bad they couldn't help me unless i paid over a grand for a "super duper thorough recovery process". I declined.

@an_outlaw: I wasn't looking for this type of functionality on besteveralbums.com. I was looking for something like itunes where i could sort by year EXCEPT i don't want to use itunes to load 30,000+ songs into it for multple reasons... If i could load all my songs into one app and then sort by year, then i could be able to determine what albums i have in each year in order to rank them and then enter that yearly album ranking into besteveralbums.com (once that functionality is ready). Does this make sense?

I'm with you Surprised I got it now! The wheels are turning in my mind!

You want some alternative to itunes or windows media player that can sort the music in the way you want it. To begin with I thought you were talking about this website but now released you said "for the sake of the top 100 yearly charts coming up" so you didn't want to sort things via the website but insted for the website!

I don't know if I can answer your question though. Perhaps 'Phillips Songbird' player might be a choice? That is free to download from the Phillips website and comes free with their mp3s. I'm not sure if it will do as you want it to though. You will have to find out or wait for more suggestions.

I had my HD scraped by BestBuy for $100. They checked it first to see if the could scrape it before they charged me.

I use WMP the problem I have is the date is the date of the song is the date of the album from which it comes. Not too good with GH albums.

I am not sure if you had this but sometimes do the dates become completely wrong on windows media player? I have had albums from the 1970's listed as 2006 or something like that. Some years are put without no rhyme or reason Shocked

yeah, i tried best buy first as they were the cheapest. They checked first and found it was too bad off to help me.

i guess i'll have to monkey with winamp then because i haven't found where to display the year in the main library window. i'm not as concerned with greatest hits albums as i generally exclude them from "best of" lists.

I don't rip entire albums, just songs. I usually use the latest edition of the song, assuming that it is the best. That is where the dates get messed up. If I correct them, later WMP updates the data back to the imbedded info.

Do you have it on shuffle all the time? It is fun to listen to albums all the way through via windows media player sometimes.

I suppose you have a CD player and a vinyl player to listen to albums from start to finish though
