"This is the only music I've listened to all day today. I've listened to it six times in about nine/ten hours:
FIRST LISTEN
holy shit this is bad. i want to like it but it's shit.
SECOND LISTEN
i guess it's cool that they practiced this like essentially hundreds of times to get it down perfect. it's still weird as shit though.
THIRD LISTEN
dude he literally intended everything that happens on this record to happen. this is actually super impressive, as weird as it is.
FOURTH LISTEN
i actually kind of like it. parts of it are catchy.
FIFTH LISTEN
it doesn't even seem that weird anymore. it seems like just rock music that had a lot of thought put into it.
SIXTH LISTEN
THAT'S RIGHT, THE MASCARA SNAKE. FAST AND BULBOUS. ALSO A TINNED TEARDROP. I RUN ON BEANS. THIS IS SO COOL."

"I'm sorry, but I'm not cool enough to like this album. I am human, i don't wank with sandpaper and I don't have ear drums of steel. I'm not one of the grovelling masses at the feet of van vilet"

Never understood exactly what is so wonderful about this album on a number of listens, after becoming curios due it its inclusion in the best albums lists of Piero Scaruffi, Joe S. Harrington and David Keenan. Although it is not hardcore punk or even a prototype thereof, I have a similar reaction to Trout Mask as I do to almost every album of that genre.

Agree, a very challenging listen (if that's the right word) and goes well over my head (and I've tried a few times), but I love some of his other albums Safe As Milk in particular). _________________ Bluesky ยท Facebook ยท Spotify ยท X

One of the best Pop albums of the late 60s. Some of it manages to surpass I Want to Hold Your Hand and Barbara Ann, with innovation and experimentation that approaches The Beach Boys and Beatlesโ daring of 1966. Straddles the border between The Beatles Please Please Me, Anthony Braxton, Mary Poppins, Howlin Wolf, Looney Tunes, Chevy Chase, Monty Python, Jack Daniels, Emir Kusturica and Cecil Taylorโs Unit Structures. _________________ Best Classical
