I feel like she'll never quite get her due. Too indie for the mainstream, too mainstream for the indie. Etc. But she's written solid stuff. _________________ Doubles & Conch

Pretty sure I'll vote for my nom. I just love love oddball pop, especially when it borrows a bit from The Cure. I'm a pretty huge fan of everything Ariel Pink has done and think he's one of the most significant artists of the 2010s.
BUT, I agree that that Hatchie track is very solid. My kid & I listened to her album in the car after hearing this single, and we were quite impressed. Will definitely be adding some tracks of hers to our roadtrip playlist.
I've kind of hit a wall with Hatchie, I just don't really think at this point she's ever going to climb out of her own little niche and do something grander, though what she can do she does very consistiently and it's always lovely. I just put it on as background music, but never really a point where I need to stop everything & laser focus on any invidual song. Still, this would be a decent contender in other early matches but I do really like this latter-day Ariel Pink ghost pop we got going on here, he's a prime candidate for Biggest Douche in the Universe but man can he still put out quality songs at such a strong rate, and easy vote here

The thing is, Hatchie just took over the mantle of Chuck Norris on the internet, after the latter's (untimely?) death. So you don't hit a wall with Hatchie, she actually moves the wall in your direction until it makes contact with your body.
Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure the last time I listened to a Hatchie song was for a BEA tournament. I wanna say 2022? Sounds about right.
Ariel Pink remains good at doing his thing and wins my vote. _________________ Bob Dylan Charles Mingus
