Dylan's almost always been brilliant. And this is proof.

A seminal and monumental work of art in so many ways. With this record, Dylan went one stage further than Highway 61 Revisited - itself a work of genius. These two albums literally revolutionized and elevated the singer-songwriter craft to a totally new level. All the great poetic 'stream of consiousness' works from Van Morrison's 'Astral Weeks' and Tim Buckley's 'Lorca through to Joanne Newsom today, is rooted in this masterpiece.

I can't hear how either Morrison, Buckley or Newsom are rooted in witty and loosely performed blues songs about leopard skin pill-box hats and getting stoned.
