I just don't like The Smiths, and it's not for lack of trying. I have all their albums and have listened to them over and over and over. They just all sound like the same song and the same album. Something about Morrissey's voice just bores me. I have read many comments on here that if you have heard one Bob Dylan album then you have heard them all. I can understand that sentiment, but I would argue that the same criticism could be equally applied to The Smiths, with one major difference being that I like all Dylan's music. I know The Smiths are loved by all on this forum and that this comment will probably get me bannished from this website, but I wanted to speak my mind...not to try to start something but just to see if there are any others out there who feel the same way I do. Peace.

I don't get the point of this thread really, but anyway: The Smiths ARE overrated. It's not like I don't like their music, I do, it's just that they aren't top 100 material. Probably not top 200 material either.

Oh, I didn't know I was starting a thread, perhaps there is no point. I am very new at this. I will try to delete it. Anyway, it is good to know that there is at least one other person out there who doesn't see the brilliance of The Smiths.

You could post it as a comment on the Smiths' band page on BEA Smile

Well, I guess you could say that to an extent......

I don't see why. It's perfectly understandable to not like The Smiths. I am a huge fan, but Morrissey can be hard to take, I'll admit it.

Oh but whether a band is overrated or not is entirely subjective ain't it? Being my favourite ever band I could argue that The Smiths are in fact underrated and I find it very hard to appreciate quite how anybody could dislike their music. That's just me though.

Not really sure how you want me to answer this post other than NO I do not agree with you.

Other than that welcome to BEA.

I share your sentiments 100%. That band could bore a nuclear explosion back into its shell.

"I agree"

"I disagree"

"I kind of agree but kind of disagree"

Is this thread exclusively about The Smiths or could it be expanded to "an album or artist who seems to be loved by everyone on BEA that I just don't enjoy listening to and I would like help to understand how to appreciate it"?

If so, my pick would be Loveless. Please help me.

The Smiths are boring. I do enjoy a lyric or two of theirs, but all in all I feel like they are boring. Only these songs redeem them from me hating them: How Soon Is Now, Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others, Panic, Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want, Ask, Nowhere Fast.
