I know we're all done with 2012 now, but with five people I know considering this the best album of the year, I wanted to know what you guys think of it.

Overexposed by Maroon 5

To me at this moment, it seems like the single worst album of the year. And I'm not even saying that as a rockist, or Carly Rae Jepson wouldn't be in my top 5.

But for me, this album was absolutely gross, like being stabbed in the chest several times, and pouring saccharine over your wounds.

The album cover about describes the music perfectly; it's bloated, overly-sugary, and, well, overexposed, like a bad photo. It's all medium, no art.

Not only that, but it also seems so fake in more measurable ways. For instance, not only did most of the band sit in the corner while Max Martin and Adam Levine put the tracks together, but it's been well stated that this whole album was to capitalize on the success of a cheap cash-in single! I like pop, but that kind of greed to me is inexcusable.

Of course, not everyone shares my opinion. My last girlfriend Jamie considered it to be her favorite album of the year, saying:
Quote:
. . . It speaks to me. . .it is definitely more of a girls album though. . .
To me it sounds like the soundtrack to a barefoot summer night in the under the stars with your lover . . .

So just like I did with Brokencyde after several years, I may learn to really love this album later, and have to correct myself on calling it the worst album of the year.

But what do you guys think?

I didn't like it, so you aren't alone here for sure. I though hands all over was worse.

I haven't listened to it yet... thankfully. I hate this guy's voice and every time I hear "Moves Like Jagger" I want to jump off a ledge and hope that I don't survive!

Maroon 5 are very annoying, but they're good pop artists, even if Adam Levine voice is a whiny autotuned mess.

I've always had a softspot for Payphone, when I hear it on the radio I don't object. It's got a strong verse and powerful chorus. It always gets Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros in my head as well, not sure why - they must share similar chord structures or some other musical lingo.

I haven't heard any more of the songs. But from the fact the album opens with their 3 singles (as most pop albums do) it probably goes very downhill as soon as it hits track 4.

I may well be wrong though.

This is, by far, Maroon 5's best album.

I think there were plenty worse, funny thing is that what I consider worse is generally considered the best.

I'm real over Maroon 5, Songs About Jane was their only good album. They have had a handful of good songs since then though. I'll probably buy Overexposed eventually but I'm not really in a hurry.
