Just went on a Mike Oldfield binge this past week.

He's an absolute genius, and despite what Noah says, this is his masterpiece.

One of my favorite classical records ever, and a huge influence on Tales of Slipknot Oceans.

The section where cookie monster is speaking is the most unsatisfying piece of music I've ever heard (probably)

Also a friend once told me that Mike Oldfield was some homeless guy in the early 70s and krautrock band Faust invited him to sleep in their recording studio because they felt sorry for him. Then he had suddenly composed and recorded this album. I'm not sure if it's true though, but I like the story

According to the notes in my cd of Faust IV, Mike Oldfield was signed to virgin records, but didn't have much money. Faust were living in some manor in Britain with a recording studio, and they let him live with them and use the studio when they weren't. That is when tubular bells was recorded.

I haven't listened to this in forever. I remember there being some brilliant parts but also some really stupid parts.
