I hate this album, but not because it was bad. It was actually pretty good.

But slowly, it introduced this horrible "gangsta" persona to hip-hop that ruined all the fun. From 2001 until The College Dropout and Madvillainy in 2004, there was nothing but Emimem and Nelly everywhere you went.

It seems Jay-Z's mic skills peaked early on... I'm not saying he's crap now, but he was much better on this album.

I think lethalnezzle is right again, Applerill. I also like his comment on this record's main page. There's nothing quite like a sly post-modern touch in an old-ish hip hop line.
