First three songs are fantastic alongside One Tree Hill - rest are alright. Still love it as an album, Mother of the Disappeared is one of my favourite closers.

Because this made U2 so huge there is backlash against it. I remember when it came out, and I was a fan, based on War on the Unforgettable Fire. This did seem calculated... but it is still great. I think the whole second side (you know, of the LP) is great, especially One Tree Hill. Running to Stand Still is also a fantastic album cut. The hits were all hits for good reason, too. And yeah, Mothers is a great closer. Me, I save my backlash for Radiohead. _________________ Top Canadian songs, keyless entry remotes, home care, whatever...

I absolutely love it. The opening big 3 (especially With Or Without You, a masterpiece despite being overplayed) set the scene and the rest of the tracks do not only satisfy, but some of them also prove to be almost of the same league as those famous three singles (Bullet The Blue Sky is haunting with its apocalyptic imagery and dark tone, while the pessimistic attitude of the two closing tracks and Exit in particular give the album an extra credit for scope, ensuring this is a work of musicians who are now totally realized and mature). Even the least powerful tracks, Running To Stand Still and Trip Through Your Wires carry strong emotions and are really solid as well, while the political messages throughout, despite the hypocritical image the members of the band created the following years, especially Hewson, are honest and poignant. Not to mention Evans's mind blowing guitar work. A masterpiece and one of my favorite albums.
