This is a bit vague. If you're talking like the first 2 "scenes" like comparing the New York Punk Acene of the mid 70s to late 70s versus the British Punk Scene that arose just after the NY scene in the late 70s, then I'd say I generally like the New York scene more. That's like The Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, The Voidoids, Johnny Thunders, etc versus The Clash, Sex Pistols, the Damned, Wire, The Dead boys, etc.
But in LA and other parts of Cali you had another great punk scene appear in the late 70s and early 80s, with The Dead Kennedys, X, Black Flag, The germs, etc.
And if you mean everything after the initial 5-7 years of "punk", well idk. By then it was pretty even and dispersed.
Any way you cut it, I tend to like the NY/Cali bands more than the English bands. _________________ -Ryan
While London Calling is my top punk album of all time, and I'm a big fan of other British punk bands like the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks and The Pogues, I'll probably have to side with the US in terms of punk still, New York in particular has produced some serious groups that are punk in one form or another, Velvet Underground, Ramones, Talking Heads, Television, etc., there's also Patti Smith from around the 70's. Then there's the punk bands which emerged out of California in the late 70's/early 80's, such as Minutemen, Black Flag and Dead Kennedys (Bands I love dearly) and even Green Day (Not a big fan, but Dookie is superb!). All in all, personally overall I prefer US punk music. _________________

I recommend you all listen to the Sex Pistols' "New York" then Johnny Thunders' "London Boys" back to back. It's cool. It was like East Coasy/Erst Coast or Bighie vs Tupac for the US/UK punk rivalry. _________________ -Ryan
