- Post subject: Album ratings manipulated on this site
|
OK, so earlier today I was viewing a recent chart that I had submitted (my Top 100 albums of the 2010s) and I noticed that most of these albums had just been rated by a user called 5thbeatle yesterday. This person had rated pretty much all the albums 70/100. On further inspection I discovered that this user had submitted over 2560 album ratings on here yesterday alone and none of these ratings seemed to be higher than 75/100!
This user had previously submitted a bunch of ratings on 25/03/13. So what, he's listened to over 2560 albums in the past week?
So, is this user deliberately down-rating albums that he has never heard before in order that other albums he likes will be rated higher in the overall charts?
I only joined this site about four months ago so wasn't aware that this sort of thing was going on. I wonder what other people who have been on this site for longer feel about this practice?
imo, it cannot be right to rate an album that you've never heard before. I mean, when I submitted my Top 100 albums of the 2010's, I had added a bunch of albums that were not previously on this site as they were from more obscure artists. I had rated some of these albums 90/100 or 85/100 and feel that this rating is correct as some of these albums I've listened to 10-15 times or in some cases even more!
Would love to hear your views please

Good discovery. Personally, very, very few of my album ratings have gone beloe 60. I give a lot of 80's and many 100's. You can check. But that user's not just doing this to raise the rating for the albums. He's getting half a point for each rating. He gained 1280 points in that day on one system of gaining points alone. What about song ratings? How many have he rated below 70?Should this be reported?

He could have just heard all those albums previously and never felt like rating them, but who has the time to do all those ratings in one day? Meh, maybe he does. I don't know.

Sounds like a great thing to discover, dude. You should report that to albummaster. Write him a PM or Personal Message about it and he will, when he has time, look into it. Or he will or could have a moderator help him with the situation.
I personally think it's BS and I agree it's wrong and shouldn't happen. Obviously it ahould be honest.
It couldn't be a program this person has set up in order to rate so many albums so fast. Just in terms of TIME to rate that many records, it seems physically impossible to rate 2500 albums in one day unless he has some program running that does it automatically.
Also this may be a scheme to get member points very fast. That's over 1200 points in one day by rating so many records.
Really fishy.
Again please report this to albummaster. _________________ -Ryan

He had over 10,000 points already, why would he need more?

Exchange every time I said "one day" to "one week" now that I Reread what you said. Anyway, yeah. Still fishy as hell. _________________ -Ryan

I also wondered that he had rated some of the "obscure" albums that I personally have added to the site. Seems weird if he doesn't actually know the albums when he has so many points already! _________________ "The Beatles, the greatest band known to mankind." - Bismah Mughal
