- Post subject: What music are you discovering now?
|
I'm trying to uncover some of the roots of modern day electronic music, starting with Klaus Schulze. I hope to get a larger grasp on ambient with vast landscapes and hopefully better understand Brian Eno and acquaint myself with krautrock

I've been on a pretty heavy krautrock binge myself. All I've been listening to are Kraftwerk, Neu!, and Faust.
I'm also trying to get deeper into dream pop. I decided that Broadcast is not really my thing, but right now Mazzy Star is like God.

hmm, I was always try to discover and enjoy 20th Century Classic, Folk, Krautrock
but it's hard to get in because all of that genre have not much popularity on mainstream
(so they have few fans and I don't know where to start)

Since joining BEA, I've been attempting to broaden my knowledge of electronic and ambient music too. It's an area I've also been into to certain degree but there's so much great stuff out there that I wasn't familiar with.
I've also been on a bit of a jazz journey, exploring hard bop and stuff, and have just ventured into the daunting discography of Sun Ra.

Yeah, Sun Ra is pretty Dope, love his stuff.
Topic:
Currently I'm just going through a bunch of different genres, mainly Blues and Punk, but I'm also going through a lot of metal as well. Some really good stuff.

Sun Ra has probably one of the strongest discographies of the 60's. I still need to go further in depth with his 70's releases.

I'm about halfway through my post rock adventures. Recently discovered a budding local pr scene while looking for stuff for Peru thread. Turns out I know, and have even jammed with, one of the guys in one of the biggest acts. I'm probably gonna go into folk drone after this.
Also, if anyone wants a krautrock (don't dismember me lethal) rec, check my chart or shoot me a PM.

You should check out Cluster, who are great, and Harald Grosskopf's Synthesist (which was admittedly a bit after the birth of the synth experimentation, being released in 1980). If you can, you should also try and watch the BBC documentary Krautrock: The Rebirth of Germany; it's very focused on a few acts (Can, Cluster, Kraftwerk), but gives a good overview of a few different scenes (sorting them by sound and geography, which is really quite useful) and contains some great interviews.
