  • Post subject: Artists Who Change Their Sound (For Better of Worse?)
A lot of artists have a distinct sound to their music, almost iconic, and then there is a record that completely questions their sound. Who are some artist that have done it right? Who are some that messed up? Also, which bands are trending towards new sounds as they progress through albums?

Metallica moved away from thrash metal after their fourth album. Their self-titled fifth album was much slower and just totally different, but still great. Then after that idk what they tried doing and everything went to shit. Listen to an early Metallica album and then listen to one from the 90s or 00s. Totally different band.

The Clash, their first 2 albums were normal punk and then they moved on to London Calling which had a perfect blend of a bunch of different genres and then they did Sandinista which completely fucked up their flow.

Weezer, I love their first 2 albums, both are in my top 20, but what were they thinking after that, they just lost it or something...

Talk Talk had the biggest change of sound. Their new wave was great, but their proto-post-rock is excellent.

I should have stoped this thread. Brick wall The first 3 artists mentioned are ones I could have easily predicted and the story given for Metallica and Weezer is one which has been said so many times before. It's almost like the same things are being repeated over and over.

Then again, new users may not have read such things before. There is no use in complaining either.

Best thing to do would be to contribute myself. Think

Right...

Whilst, for saying this, I will be guilty of bringing up the second most talked about artist on this website and as a result become a bit of a hypocrite for complaining in the first place, I'll give you something discuss. Laughing

Radiohead have hardly changed their sound at all since The Bends.

You mean Kid A sounds very similar to The Bends?

You say you don't want to complain, but it was 60% of your post.

Radiohead has changed their sound a lot since The Bends, thought that was obvious.

They have become electronic even at points. Listen to Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors and tell me that could be on The Bends.
