In fifty years from now, a scandinavian post-punk specialist will ask another: "husker du Husker Du og husker du Pere Ubu?"

HOW DO I CHOOSE??!!

Okay so there are more chances of me voting for Pere Ubu, but still. This should've been, like, the final or something.

Pere Ubu is a Cleveland group which plays a combination of experimental rock, art rock, new wave and post punk with a very unique sound, marked especially by the very marked voice of David Thomas, frontman and only constant member through the years. The band was formed on 1975; released their first album, "The Modern Dance", on 1978; and they are still active today, having released their latest album this same year. Pere Ubu have been termed (by both themselves, the media and the critics) as an avant-garde band #abstractqualities.

Their first album, The Modern Dance, is the best-known and best-regarded. I find it to be an awesome listen, managing to join the eccentricity of art rock, the spirit of punk, the sound of new wave and the raw energy of rock.

It was followed by Dub Housing on that same year, which is also an amazing listen.

They have also released a huge amount of lesser-known albums of varying quality through the decades. Their latest, Lady From Shanghai, is one of the better and is also recommended.

Pere Ubu is not now nor has it ever been a viable commercial venture. We won't sleep on floors, we won't tour endlessly and we're embarrassed by self-promotion. Add to that a laissez-faire attitude to the mechanics of career advancement and a demanding artistic agenda and you've got a recipe for real failure. That has been our one significant success to this date: we are the longest-lasting, most disastrous commercial outfit to ever appear in rock 'n' roll. No one can come close to matching our loss to longevity ratio.

Husher Du isn't really post-punk... so I went with Pere Ubu. Even though I've never been able to get into them..

Two foes Du and Ubu
Fought arduously to outdo
Husker came and beat
Pere without any real feat
Will this see the rise of Du?
