|
I think this thread would raise some good discussions. Every video game website I know of has a discussion of this same subject: Who do you want to be in the next games? The confirmed characters are here:
http://www.ign.com/wikis/super-smash-br...Characters
I really cannot wait for the Wii U version. I also wonder if there will be any differences between the Wii U and the 3DS versions and if there were some new way to connect the two through Wi-Fi to unlock more stuff.
My hopes are for (characters with a chance):
Any of the Koopalings
the trainer from Pokemon Black and White (Pokemon)
Liquid Snake (MGS)
Ridlry (Metroid) Final Smash: Meta Ridley
Samurai Goroh (F-Zero) Final Smash: Fire Stingray (his vehicle)
Tails and Knuckles
Unlikely ones that I wish were in:
Bomberman
Cloud (FFVII)
Pac-Man
Rawk Hawk (Paper Mario TTYD)
Spyro (Original, not that thing on Skylanders)
I hope there are plenty of SSB fans on BEA.

My friends and I play smash a lot and I semi keep up with the melee competitive scene. All I want is for them to fix all the dumb bullshit from brawl and have Chrom from Fire Emblem: Awakening in it. In my optimal world every character from Persona 4 and 3 is in it, but Persona already has a great fighting game so I don't really need that.

I could go on forever and start naming tonnes of highly unlikely possibilities for characters for the new Smash Bros., but I decided to limit myself (as the developers themselves are limited in what they can accomplish). I found that this led me to think more critically about what would be best for the game rather than what would be the coolest to see. My priorities changed. I stopped thinking things like "oh, the Zelda series definitely deserves another character, but Mario should have more than Zelda" and that got rid of a lot of the excess and ultimately made what I think is a very good list.
The number I chose to limit myself with was 48, as Nintendo had anticipated hitting that number in creating Brawl.
Confirmed:
1. Mario
2. Link
3. Kirby
4. Pikachu
5. Samus
6. Donkey Kong
7. Fox
8. Pit
9. Bowser
10. Villager
11. Mega Man
12. Wii Fit Trainer
Returning characters:
13. Yoshi
14. Captain Falcon
15. Ness
16. Jigglypuff
17. Ice Climbers
18. Zelda
19. Peach
20. Diddy Kong
21. Wario
22. Marth
23. Ike
24. Sonic
25. Mr. Game & Watch
26. King Dedede
Updated characters:
27. Falco (new moveset)
28. Mewtwo (both original and new formes implemented)
29. Olimar (with new Pikmin types implemented)
30. Luigi (new moveset, Poltergust implemented)
31. Meta Knight (nerfed)
32. Ganondorf (new moveset)
New characters:
33. Ridley (Metroid)
34. Johto Trainer (same concept as Pokémon Trainer but with Pokémon Gen. 2 starters)
35. Chrom (Fire Emblem)
36. Isaac (Golden Sun)
37. Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles)
38. Bayonetta
39. Krystal (Starfox)
40. Pokey (...Porky? - EarthBound/Mother)
41. King K. Rool (Donkey Kong)
42. Samurai Goroh (F-Zero)
43. Ray 01 (Custom Robo)
44. Bowser Jr.
45. Little Mac (Punch-Out!!)
46. Pac-Man
47. Rayman
48. Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog)
Some "maybe" characters:
Knuckles (Sonic the Hedgehog) - possible substitute for Tails
Travis (No More Heroes) - high doubts that Grasshopper and Nintendo (err... should I say Namco Bandai?) are chummy enough for this to happen, but Travis is too perfect for SSB to be ignored
Saki (Sin & Punishment) - he'd be pretty good for SSB, but I question his relevance
Wolf - he'd be okay with a new moveset, but I'm already giving Falco (the other semi-clone of Fox) a new moveset, so I figured better to leave him out and throw Krystal in
Viewtiful Joe - this one's just too perfect. I figure the chance of Nintendo/Namco Bandai letting in a character from a second Capcom series is a bit slim though.
Klonoa - with the inclusion of third parties, there obviously needs to be a Namco Bandai-owned character. Pac-Man is the obvious choice - iconic - but Klonoa would just go so well with SSB
R.O.B. - he wasn't the best or the most relevant, but he's a veteran who's at least somewhat different in his fighting style
Starfy - a lot of the "universes" mentioned here that would be new to SSB (Bayonetta, Xenoblade, Custom Robo) just aren't very... cute. Starfy would be an adorable addition, but he'd also quite literally be a fish out of water.
Professor Layton - this is an interesting choice. It's easy to imagine him in SSB, but hard to imagine what kind of moves he would use. I'm including him here regardless due to a mysterious tweet from Nintendo back when Brawl was in development that seemed to hint at him joining the roster.
Some "please no" characters:
Waluigi and Birdo - both for the same reason. People only suggest these two because they get thrown into Mario Karts and Parties and various sports, etc. They are both irrelevant characters who were put into Mario Tennis because Wario and Yoshi needed partners (Waluigi was seriously invented for this purpose only, meanwhile Birdo was pulled from obscurity as a one-game Mario enemy) and ever since they've been weaseling their way into the rosters of multiplayer Mario spin-offs, nowhere to be seen in any canonical Mario titles. Anyone who wants these characters in most likely lacks the ability or knowledge to come up with the probable hundreds of better options. Honestly, I've seen both of them on wishlists under "Wario universe" and "Yoshi universe" respectively. Plus, they're both mega-creepy.
Shadow - Too similar to Sonic and not as important as Knuckles or Tails.
And, lastly: NO CLONES AT ALL. _________________ kill yr idols

If they put in another Starfox representative, Leon or Crystal are the most deserving. I think Crystal should be in so that there can be a totally different moveset for a Starfox character that relies less on speed and more on... magic, like Zelda perhaps? Fox, Falco, and Wolf's movesets are all too similar. That's why I'm so good with them. My best characters are Falco, Sonic, Wolf, Fox, Samus, possibly Meta Knight, Diddy, Donkey, and Yoshi.

If those things happen, that would make me happy. As for the last bit, as much as I would like that, there is no way it will happen.

Notice Wolf was one of the Brawl characters I left out of my roster.
Also, a Persona character is a good possibility since it looks like Nintendo is buying Atlus now
EDIT: Scratch that, if any Atlus character gets in, it's gonna be Flynn. _________________ kill yr idols

Aight so as someone who doesn't own either a WiiU or a 3DS (and probably never will), I'm still super pumped for this game. I'm a huge Smash fan, and (if I do say so myself) I'm fucking awesome at Smash 64. Was pretty good at Melee, but never got into it competitively. Brawl pissed me off competitively, but I play for fun sometimes.
As far as the already introduced characters go, of course Megaman is awesome and an Animal Crossing character is long awaited (Villager is cool, though I was expecting Tom Nook; the moveset is almost exactly what I envisioned for Nook though). And Wii Fit Trainer looks fucking awesome to play as. I'm sure it'll be a unique character. As far as new/modified characters go, here's my hopes and predictions:
Firstly, I'm hoping everyone will stay except Wolf, Toon Link, Lucario, and Pokemon Trainer (yes, I'd love ROB to come back). Hopefully Falco and Ganondorf will be de-clonified.
As far as new characters (like Alex, I've been thinking now about uniqueness of characters, using Wii Fit Trainer as an example).
some basics first:
1. Bowser Jr. (/Shadow Mario transformation)
2. Ridley
3. Krystal
4. Mewtwo (with new form as transformation)
5. Samurai Goroh (from F Zero)
6. Isaac (from Golden Sun)
7. Takamaru (from Japan only NES game): another swordsman, but could still be interesting
And as far as characters who would play uniquely:
8. Skull Kid (with Majora's Mask): a bit outdated, but could definitely be really cool
9. Sturm (from Advance Wars): could be very unique, and though he didn't actually really fight in his game, he could have a moveset made for Smash like Fox or Captain Falcon
10. Claus (from Mother 3): half psychic kid, half robot angel? Sounds cool enough
11. Waluigi: hear me out, I think he could play very interestingly, and his attacks could revolve around using golf clubs, tennis rackets, Mario Kart and Party items, etc. And mega creepy is definitely a good thing in this case. Even though he's a spinoff only character, he could still be a very interesting fighter in Smash
12. Captain Rainbow (from titular game): if you don't know who this is, just look him up. Japan only game, but it seems like it would be a fucking ridiculous character
13. Chibi-Robo: cutesy character like Olimar, could be interesting
14. Sukapon: ancient Nintendo fighting game character, with a backstory similar to Megaman, could be neat
15. Raymond Bryce (from Disaster: Day of Crisis): never released in the US, but EU and Australia got a release. He's a former Marine and essentially the closest Smash would have to an actual human being (though Snake's pretty much a normal human).
I'm sure there will be some new Pokemon and Fire Emblem characters, but I haven't really kept up on those two series (though I understand there's a new Pokemon game coming out soonish, and that Mewtwo has an alternate form).
Honestly I don't really care who they put in, the 3 newcomers already look awesome. Olimar's already confirmed in, and if they keep Game&Watch and R.O.B. I'll be happy, as those were some of the most unique and fun to play characters. It looks like all 3 WiiU/3DS newcomers will be joining this "unique" party.
As far as everything else goes, I want a stage based on the Super Mario Galaxy hub. That would be cool. The pirate ship from Brawl was one of my favorite levels, so hopefully they can bring that concept back, maybe as a Donkey Kong Country style stage or an aircraft carrier from Advance Wars. I also think Magicant (from Earthbound, basically Ness' trippy dream world) would be a cool stage, though unlikely. A Balloon Fight stage would be cool. Lastly, the island from Wii Fit would make for a nice Delfino Plaza-style stage. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

Captain Rainbow! Great pick! If Villager surprised you (as you were expecting Tom Nook), he was actually confirmed for Brawl as "Animal Crosser" but didn't make it in for some reason. I can't wait to see Villager's color changes though. Probably a female villager and some cool outfits.
Also I'm definitely on the Wii Fit Trainer hype train. She's been kinda universally mocked, but I for one think it's an awesome inclusion. That reveal was totally left-field for everybody.
As for stages, I'd like to see Eryth Sea from Xenoblade. That would be a beauty. Actually, any Xenoblade location would be awesome as I fucking love that game and its setting really deserves to be seen in HD. Also the highway stage from Sonic Adventure 2, SkyTown from Metroid Prime 3, and a Pokémon Stadium where there are actually trainers battling. _________________ kill yr idols

Btw, Sakurai's said the stages will be different but the characters will be the same (Wii U gets stages based on console games, 3DS based on handheld). _________________ kill yr idols

Not that I was expecting Tom Nook, I just would've preferred Tom Nook, but they're basically the same.
And I don't recall seeing anything about "Animal Crosser" in brawl, but I know that Dixie Kong, Toon Zelda, Toon Sheik, Plusle&Minun, Dr. Mario, Mewtwo, and Roy were all found in the beta code (which I guess indicates that they were being developed and then abandoned). I understand that each game there are characters that Sakurai/dev team wanted to add but couldn't. I remember reading that Pit and Meowth were intended for 64, but the time constraints on that were too tight (and that Jigglypuff was added instead because it was easier to animate , don't know how true the Jigglypuff part is though). _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!
