I preferred Mezzanine for quite some time, but it's now my least favorite out of their first three (though still great) records. This one is absolutely breathtaking, and without any doubt one of the best albums I've ever had the chance to listen to. My favorite track has always been the first one. I love Unfinished Sympathy obviously, but I must admit that I never got what made it so special compared to the other tracks. I don't find it particularly better than anything else on the record to be honest.
Used to love this. Now Horace Andy just sounds so annoying to me (Can't stand "One Love") and destroys an otherwise very good listen. Opener, title track and Unfinished Sympathy are still great though.
The Shara Nelson tracks get all the love, and deservedly so, but my personal favorites above those are "Be Thankful For What You Got" and "Hymn of the Big Wheel." An album that incorporates a bunch of genres to kickstart its own with a chill lounge feel that presents a cross-section of big personalities, thanks to its collective nature.
"Be Thankful For What You've Got" by William de Vaughn is far beyond just being worth checking out - it is an absolute classic track. A wonderful summer song - especially for cruising in your car.
