Hi guys, how are ya? I figured I'd run this thing in the music forum since we had the bea forum regulars album 500 run here (if any mods feel it shouldn't be please feel free to move it move it) though I may run the presentations in the games forum so as to not clutter up the music forum. So this thing is pretty simple. We're going to see what BEA forum members favourite songs of all times are. Now the reason I say 'times' is because we're going to have 6 separate lists - 1 for each decade since the 60s (am I screwing over the 50s? maybe, who cares). This is made in an effort to have no particular decade dominating an overall list - plus it's kind of cool to have our own lists for each decade. This means that you will have 6 different ballots to complete with your favourite 50 songs of that decade (or any lower multiple of 10). You can do as few or as many as you want but of course the more ballots we get for this thing the more complete it will be. You'll have around a month to compile them so take your time.
There's really not much more to explain - we might do an overall list made from the choices of all the other lists but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Whether each list is 50 or 100 will all depend on how many ballots I get.
Anyway if you have any problems, ideas, thoughts post em otherwise I'll get on with making those ballots up. 😄 cheers.
My instant reaction here was "Oh no why are we doing this by decade", though after thinking about it a bit, it makes some sense, as it lets us compare things in a more interesting way I think, and allows a larger ballot from those of us who enjoy a lot of music (not that there are any of this on this site who enjoy a lot of music 😉 ) A bit of a pity that the 50s aren't being included, but at the same time, it would be a lot like some of the categories that only received a few votes on the BEAMAs, and just wouldn't be worth the time, so I understand that. I look forward to this starting! _________________

Grand idea. However, I'd really personally appreciate the possibility to include older songs. Where am I going to include "Strange Fruit"?
A question before I start thinking about my lists: what do you mean by songs? All instrumentals excluded? (sorry if that question is obviously dumb, but I've read instrumentals referred as 'songs' so many times...) Spoken words? Raps?
Will certainly participate in this when you get it going. Sounds like a great idea even if time consuming. I'll be able to get all the tracks from my itunes playlists where I have all my favourite tracks going back to the early sixties!

Yeah I'd like the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s to be included somehow. "West End Blues", "Strange Fruit", "Cool Drink Of Water Blues", "Smokestack Lightnin'", "Roseroom", "Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground" etc, these are all all time favorites for me.
Also, yeah, I'd hope instrumental tracks can be included. _________________ -Ryan
Given that doing this with songs will give you a much wider range of nominations than for albums, there needs to be a decent amount of people taking part for this to work. Although, if it's only top 50 then it definitely can.
