What do you want to find in music or in an album? What are your favorite things about albums?

Personally, the things I look for are diversity and consistency. I love the mixing of multiple genres in one album, or a track. And IO get bored easily if there's little consistency.

All I really look for in an album is enjoyment to be honest.

I don't look for anything. Man, just listen to the music and enjoy it.

Woo, Jman, you've been creating some good threads recently! What was that other one you made recently that was awesome? I forgot what it was called, hmm.

Anyways, here we go. I think it is pretty damn hard to like an album that doesn't please your ears in some way, so that is obvious. Has got to be sonically pleasing. I'll never get into completely experimental music probably, since I do like my songs to be...well, pleasant.
But then I really like music which encapsulates an atmosphere...Or encapsulates a feeling...I'm a really big fan of music you can listen to while gazing out of windows and feel yourself drift off into a sort of alternate world, you know? I like music that doesn't admit to being music, that really becomes an experience...That's why I find it more difficult to get into things like punk...Punk is like the least atmospheric genre I know of. (sorry punk) Hip hop can be pretty atmospheric but the atmospheres are rarely atmospheres I'm into, lol.

And there is other music that is less imagination provoking and more provoking of the emotions, I suppose. Those are also favourites. Meow.

Thank you, Brandon! I'll try to remember that other thread.

Anyway, one more thing I look for in an album id production. It's easy for me to determine overproduction from bad from perfect. Not all of the albums in my chart have perfection. In fact, most of them I would give a 9. I'll give a list of those perfectly produced albums IMO.

LZIV
Hysteria
Funeral
Loveless
Metropolis Part 2
Nevermind
Blue

Overproduced: Grace, OKC, I Could Live in Hope, The Joshua Tree, Dirt, Slippery When Wet, Believe

Everything elsein my top 100 has a production value of 80 or 90 IMO.

The Joshua Tree is not overproduced, it's just Brian Eno producing it. That's like saying a Quentin Tarantino movie is too bloody. Well you could say that, but you'd be missing the point.

Anyway I don't think I look for anything in particular. As long as it sounds honest to me I guess. That is obviously determined on a case by case basis.

What does overproduced mean, exactly?

Neither...XD Oh! It was the comparing genres thread. Got lots of discussion, which is cool.
