You look at BEA's #1 albums for the years in the 1970's, you have some super-greats. Dark Side of the Moon. Zeppelin IV. Ramones. Rumours. London Calling. Many of them in the top 20 overall. In between 1973 (Dark Side of the Moon, 2nd overall) and 1975 (Wish You Were Here, 15th overall) is The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, by Genesis, #248.
To put that in perspective, it would not have made the top 7 in either 1973 or 1975. Was this the best that we as a collective site could come up with for 1974? I mean, the album doesn't suck, but best of the year? Really?
Besides Pink Floyd not releasing anything, what happened in 1974 so that nothing super-awesome got made?

1974 was a good year for music. It just wasn't a year where the biggest artists released albums. Brian Eno released two masterpieces in 1974. Great records were also released by Leonard Cohen, Big Star, Sparks, The Residents, Robert Wyatt, Harry Nilsson, John Cale, Queen, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Kraftwerk, Richard & Linda Thompson, Gene Clark, Roxy Music. But the majority of these artists don't get classic rock radio airplay, so these albums are nowhere near as well known as anything by The Who, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.

Personally, 1974 is the only year i haven't listened an album from since 1963. To me the worst year in music.

On the contrary, many "super-awesome" albums got released in 1974. That they aren't as popular here on BEA as some of the albums from the years surrounding it immaterial, and likely just coincidental.

So there was nothing wrong with 1974 as a year. Just like every other year, it had its great releases and its not so great releases. That its most popular releases aren't quite as popular as those in other years tells us nothing beyond precisely that. That you don't think The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is good enough, or whatever, to be the #1 album of a year on BEA tells use nothing beyond precisely that (I actually agree with you on that point, but it doesn't lead my to downplay the quality of some of the year's other releases simply because a lot of people think differently). I suggest paying less attention to lists and more attention to your own tastes. You'll find something you love from 1974 if you try.

How do you know it's the worst year in music if you haven't listened to any albums from it?

Yeah, 1974 wasn't the best year.. but there were still some pretty good albums released 
10cc - Sheet Music
Dadawah - Peace & Love
&
Henry Cow - Unrest
are my top 3 albums of that year Check them out.
