- Post subject: Favourite Singers/Vocalists?
|
I was certain this topic would have been covered somewhere in the forum, but I can't find one anywhere! Anyways, assuming I'm not just missing it, who are your favourite singers/vocalists? I was motivated to make this thread when I got into a heated discussion with my friend over what makes a good singer, and what qualities we each look for in a singer. So here are some singers that take my fancy:
Elizbeth Fraser
Jon Anderson
Thom Yorke
Clare Tory
Alanis Morissette
Jonsi Birgisson
Karin Dreijer Andersson
Mike Patton
Clodagh Simmonds
Stevie Nicks

Yeah thom yorke for sure
Freddy Mercury and Matt Bellamy stand out for me aswell.
Out of everyone ive heard (Im not saying hes the best) Danny Filth has the widest range of vocals. _________________ Having a family is the kind of thing that could be held against a person

Ha! Well there's one for the list! My friend said Thom Yorke was a crap singer, and I said he was insane. He said he prefers Matt Bellamy, whereas I find Matt annoying at times and hard to engage with emotionally since he's so over the top.
How's about a sub-question: Thom Yorke vs. Matt Bellamy? Equal? One terrible? The other amazing? Do they sound exactly the same to you?

I dont know if its that simple .. Thom Yorke just has a voice that gets you feeling about the song .. and you dont realise how good it is it just works really well (incredible actually)
But matt bellamy you listen and you pay alot of attention to his range and how well he can change it up so quickly .. but the down side in this is it remidns you that you're listening to a song and not just getting sucked it .. With a couple of exceptions .. Like micro cuts .. I get absolutely absorbed into that song .. If you havent heard it listen to it now and you'll know what I mean _________________ Having a family is the kind of thing that could be held against a person

Yes that song blows me away Didn't mean to sound disparaging, he's an extremely impressive vocalist.

I dont know what Muse's problem is .. they've made some good albums but theres just something that takes away from there being "Great" status like radiohead, and I personally don't compare them to radiohead at all! _________________ Having a family is the kind of thing that could be held against a person

You're right, and I don't find them very similar. Radiohead are all about the mood and Muse are all about the bombast. I just posed the question to tally some results to present to my friend in our Thom vs. Matt standoff haha. Anyways this got pretty specific, perhaps someone should chip in their faves. Anyone?
