I fully expect that Jose Gonzalez is gonna have a hard time with this one. However, I honestly believe he's the better musician, I'm not just voting for him cuz he's my nom. His original songs kick ass:

and he has the ability to cover songs in totally new and incredible ways. He puts his own soul into everything he does and can really transform whatever song he wants to into a masterpiece.

Clapton sometimes makes me want to vomit.

His brand of safe soft/blues rock he's been working since about 1970 just annoys the shit out of me.

Jose Gonzalez, well, he has moments of kind of pissing me off with how monotonous the mood of his music is. But mostly I love his fluid and gorgeous acoustic guitar playing. I like his haunting voice mostly. He's a pretty good lyricist too.

Gonzalez. Easily.

Voted for Gonzalez. He has some fine tunes & voice.

But honestly I voted against Clapton more than anything else.

I have a similar feeling to Norman, but I dislike both, and at the moment I don't want to vote for someone who I dislike less. So I abstain.

This. Jose Gonzalez is pleasant but I hardly see him as anything special. but he's still better than Clapton

Eric Clapton grew up in roughly the same area as me, claims to support the same football team. When he was struggling for relevance some time in the '80s, he asked the football club if he could perform at the stadium at half-time in order to drum up some local publicity etc.; the club said yes and this happened a few times. When the football club was then struggling in the early 1990s, lower in the league than it had ever been, Clapton was enjoying a major resurgence. The club attempted to get him back, a sort of "return the favour" thing. He was "too busy". You'll struggle to find evidence of this online, but I've been informed by many older fans than me that this is pretty much what happened. Also, his music is shit. tl;dr, fuck Eric Clapton.

Somehow this totally doesn't surprise me. I think there's a reason he's been in and left so many bands, he seems to be relatively hard to work with.

Last year I went to a Mark Kozelek concert. He was very tired (hadn't slept for twelve nights according to himself), so his communication with the crowd was either him yawning, complaining about just about everything, or telling some half-assed jokes. He seemed to wonder what kinds of sick freaks who voluntarily went to his concerts, so he also asked us a bunch of questions. At some point he asked if we could name him some artists that we liked; "And please don't fucking tell me shit like José González or Bon Iver", he added (so people said Bill Callahan and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy instead). When he actually sang and played, one of the songs he performed was Livingstone Bramble which includes the line, "I hate Eric Clapton and I hate Nels Cline"

Moral of the story: I'll abstain
