Due for a relisten. "Peaches en Reglia" sort of towers over everything else, but it's all very good.

Maybe, but Willie the Pimp is amazing as well. And don't forget The Gumbo Variations. I can't see this album ever leaving my chart.

Here is my Zappa story so far : listened to Hot Rats about a year ago, was OK, listened to Freak Out!, was amazing, listened to Absolutely Free, no thanks, listened to We're Only In It, no thanks, that's all. I sohuld probably discvoer more from him, though, he seems to have a very varied discography, with or without the Mothers. Ah well, I'll give it a try sometime, I guess.

As I listened to this album for the first time in November 1995 (two years after the death of Frank Zappa), and I immediately sense that Hot Rats - is one of the works - standing in the history of music in their own pedestal.

Early Zappa at his least pretentious. Strip away all the politics and cynicism and you just have an extremely gifted musician with mad chops on the guitar. Usually when rock musicians try to do jazz, it sounds forced, but this album is smooth and effortless.
