Although it is considered to be post-punk (sounds ike it I guess), it it is actually proto-punk or punk chronologically since it was released in 1977:

I'm not particularly well-versed in the genre, but I'm a fan of stuff by Fugazi, Fucked Up and Iceage. Chemistry Of Common Life and Repeater appear to be my highest rated punk albums.
