Okay, so the average rating for my chart is 76, and the ratings are 70, 75, 90, 90, 90, and 95. Now im no Einstein, but something seemed weird. When i used my calculator to find the average, i got 85. So is this a glitch? or do you just use a kind of different rating system? If so, could you explain how what it is? Thanks.

We recently changed the average rating algorithm to use a Bayesian average. The formula is described at the bottom of the 'top rated' page and the reasoning behind this can be found here. In general, the Bayesian average will be lower than the mean (but the same for everybody).

I'm finding the formula a bit difficult to follow. What exactly does the new formula favor and give high ratings?

The formula minimizes the effects of ratings that deviate largely from the norm (the main reason that we implemented the new system). Until something has been rated about ten times, the average won't be very meaningful (you need a decent sample size to get a 'true' figure).
