Best Ever Metal Album (not in our top 1000)

Maybe we could do this during Autumn/Winter? Does anybody find this interesting?

I'm down

I miss the old album vs. album tournaments we used to do. We haven't done one since September 2014, two whole years ago. We've been doing bunch of albums vs. another bunch of albums, but that's not the same thing.

Now, I've recently discovered that I like Metal. Doing a tournament would be a great way for me to survey a whole bunch of albums quickly.

But if we don't do this one, we still need to do an album vs. album tournament.

We should do this, it's even autumn/winter now. And I too have been exploring metal and think it would be fun to get an album tournament going. Films are great but we need some music games around here.

I'd even be willing to organize it or at least get the rules/nominations process started if people want.

To give Swedenman back his thread I'm gonna separate this discussion into a new one.

So here's an idea for a game, but I wanna see if people are interested in it before we actually do it.

It's called the Personal Top Ten.

We pick a user at random, and that user provides us with a playlist of a certain number of songs (say, 30? that can change). Everyone listens to the playlist, and then posts their ten favorite songs in the thread. Then, we create a final personalized top ten for that user from the community through scoring the rankings given (#1 album gets 10 points, #2 album gets 9 points, etc.)

Then rinse and repeat for another user.

Thoughts?

Just thinking aloud that there seem to be an excessive amount of word games in this forum at the moment. We previously had quite a few music tournaments where the quality of post was a lot higher (and discussed music), and these word games are drowning things out a bit. Not sure we need quite so many, or where they might better belong (if anywhere), but just $0.02.

Yeah I agree, they are a good way to farm points but they aren't super engaging or fun. (Saying that as someone who is an active participant)

I'd love if there was some music tournament or something but also I'm not up to setting something like that up.

Thanks for those thoughts, a bit to think about here. I get the points farming aspect, but the best way to farm points is data moderation. Moderating one standard length album is equivalent to about 15 forum posts and takes far less time. If those threads are being used for farming, then they probably shouldn't exist (site rule 8) (accepting there is minimal entertainment value to those posting).

Interesting thoughts. I like the word games because they are mildly fun, completely safe, and its interesting to see how long the threads can continue. That said, we could probably do better things in this forum.

My suggestion is mini tournaments that are much shorter and more manageable than the ones on here in the past. E.g. a maximum of 32 songs and 3 rounds. We could go with specific sub-genres/ niches for the theme. I’d like to do more lighthearted stuff like best power ballads, best song from a film, best Scandi pop song etc., though any suggestions welcome. Happy to trial something if there is any interest?

Most of the users posting on these threads already had a ton points before posting on them. They are not about points farming.

It's nice that they're safe here on BEA. I got banned on RYM once for simply playing the word association game. I simply played the game exactly as you're supposed to, posting the first word that came to my mind when I read the previous user's word, yet somehow RYM found a way to ban me for that. Very strange. I couldn't have made it up.
