Skrillex does an impressive job of mining ideas. Simple melodies and rhythms are hammered out to surprising fullness. For example, “Butterflies” is completely revived with the xylophone addition to its last third. With the exception of Missy Elliot on “RATATA”, none of the vocals feel like they added anything. The features give the impression that they are just to prevent the tracks from being instrumental. A hilarious sample of this is the earnest appreciation of “Warped tour” being built into the calls to shake it on “Good Space”. “Quest for Fire” is not thoughtful but it has solid fundamentals.
Skrillex's creative rebirth. Definitely approaches his music a different way that sounds fresh and new yet still undeniably Skrillex. Maybe too early to say his best but his most immediate and accessible.
