Freya Ridings has an impressively deep, extreme-range mezzo-soprano type of voice, similar to that of Annie Lennox (Eurythmics), Florence Welch (Florence + the Machine), Ann Wilson (Heart), and Hannah Reid (London Grammar; that's who she's most commonly compared to). It's almost too impressive, which is to say it's almost overpowering, but that doesn't make it any less impressive. It's the sort of voice you're more likely to hear in a heavy metal or goth-rock band because it's actually too powerful for other genres. (Luckily they included some less-overpowering tracks like "Happier Alone" to break things up.) Her delivery is "bluesy," but the music isn't blues-rock, which might cause a bit of cognitive dissonance in older listeners. She's often tagged as a "blue-eyed soul" artist too, but that's only because her voice is very soulful and she has blue eyes. Also, they have to tag her with something, they can't just leave that field blank. Anyway, it's a good, solid pop rock album, but you might not like it if you're intimidated by strong women.
