Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.1/100, a mean average of 76.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 7.8.

“Witchy Activities And The Maple Death” is a combination of big band with prog, which is fantastic. It creates these sprawling tracks that feel like a narrative and a live performance at the same time. The entire Witches brew suite represents the high point of musical cohesion. “Queen of Spade” is sublimely forceful with the horns and the synths hitting at the same time. The supernatural lyrics are creative and filled with striking imagery. “Direct Connection” paints a picture of a mystical seeress that can look directly into the heavens. The album's length does make some of the portions feel unessential. For example, “The Leading Expert of Loneliness” lacks the musical or lyrical strength to stand among the other songs. A slightly truncated size could allow the album to stay in the pocket longer. Witchy, performative, worth a listen.

This one is mental. Monika Roscher heads a jazz orchestra for vocal-lead bigband music – think Bitches Brew with a heavy dose of post-bop, prog, jazz fusion and avant-folk, and an atmosphere that delivers on its occult title. I love the hell out of this; again, hugely ambitious with brilliant pay-off after brilliant pay-off. I HAVE to see these guys live.
