It's unfortunate that in 2026, if your name is "Zion Battle" and you want to record your first album, you have to do it under a pseudonym, like "Katzin." Katzin also doesn't sound like what you'd expect just by looking at the album cover — he's a Black recording artist from New York doing straight-up indie folk-rock with a distinct Southwestern US vibe to it, without going so far as to warrant the "C&W" tag. Maybe you could say Beyoncé led the way on this with her "Cowboy Carter" LP, but this sounds a lot cooler than that, and frankly it's a more enjoyable listen. The instrumentation here is a hybrid of "modern rock" electronics and twangy Americana that you don't hear very often, and there are also a few momentary tripgazer passages spinkled in — I guess to get people like me interested, but it doesn't "disrupt the flow" so much. Nobody wants to disrupt the flow, after all.
