Sadness is nothing new to Sewerslvt's music. Last year's fantastic "Draining Love story" had this as the central theme. "We Had Good Times" takes that and makes it all encompassing. The songs are vast and lushly layered. Song are long and spend time building the feeling over and over. The light melodies bounce off the heavy percussion. Quiet passages will hit heavy breakdowns and then nimbly return to form. The whole project is a complete maturation of Sewerslvt's sound. Atmosphere in complete control.
"Promises" does so much with so little. The bulk of the album is just a few instruments quietly playing over each other. Light electronics will zoom over the piano. The saxophone will cut in and play a few short notes. Each of these little pieces is so well integrated that it becomes entrancing. The minimalism is compelling and serene. I could never listen to a movement separately, every moment belongs together. Just beautiful.

"A Gift To Us All" feels so liberated. Each song has the ablity to change at a moments notice. "The Perfect Shape" is a titan of transformation. Change after change happens with each somehow being better than the last. There are great little touches throughout the album. "Birds" has this creative little whistle that just sneaks in. This album inhabits the fluidity that makes electronic great.
Faith can be extremely intense. Lingua Ignota combines that power with her trademark agony to make a deeply unsettling work. Hayter will scream to the heavens begging god for divine punishment to abusers. The vivid violent religious language creates images of being splatted in Jesus's blood. The evangelical samples through the album add an underlying layer of hypocrisy to public displays of faith. How could these men of god create such hardship in the world? These questions lingered in my head long after the album ended.

A lot of great albums are difficult listens. Their ambition is demanding in time and concentration. "Silk Sonic" is the opposite of this hardship. Each track is breezy and funky. Their song writing approach is easily identifiable but filled with energy. "Smokin out the window" is hilarious and spiteful. "After last night" is deeply sensual with that amazing chorus. Paak and Mars work off each other effortlessly. They put the fun in funk.
