Weird that The Beatles stole that piano part from Radiohead.
Second favorite song on the album under Dear Prudence. I named my dog Sadie because of this song. Incredible into, great bass playing from Paul, great “wah wah wah wah” backing vocals. Extremely well produced/arranged unlike most of the white album.
Originally titled "Maharishi", the song speaks of John's disillusion after the Maharishi had tried to make sexual advances towards actress Mia Farrow, who stayed with the Maharishi during the same period as the Beatles. The title was changed at George's request. Fun fact: John scratched the lyrics into a piece of wood after returning from India, which ended up to be a fruitful trip with a bitter end for him. Well. The Beatles were also children of their time and they approached interesting phenomena (transcendental meditation, Indian sitar music) that contrasted sharply with Western society and all of its too bourgeois, decent values. Lennon lashes out at the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi just as he had already critisised the convinced Maoists on "Revolution number x". However, Lennon was also a barrel full of contradictions.
Great track. Good vocals by Lennon.
