It's this particular version, with the trip hop-cum-downtempo beat and that gorgeous early 90s warm, soft production courtesy of Neal Slateford and Nick Batt, that hits the mark every damn time.
The chilled, gentle hook is insanely catchy, whilst Vega's observational lyrics capture this early morning urban feel in every word, tinged with that slight grudging feel you have when have to get up early to get to work.
Vega's original acapella version is a great song in its own right, but this is something properly next level. 'Masterpiece' might seem like a bit of an overused term on these music review sites, but to call DNA's version of Tom's Diner anything less is criminal.
