No, it's not the best Modest Mouse song... but it's close. Indie pop/rock perfection. Gets a ton of unfair hate from big MM fans because it is a bit different than their usual sound
Modest Mouse putting out something more accessible, but somehow kept themselves in the process. You look at an album like Lonesome and wonder how this amazing optimistic song could come from the same guy, who also sung songs like Baby Blue Sedan.

Saying Float On is the best Modest Mouse song is kinda like saying I Want To Hold Your Hand is the best Beatles track. It's good, maybe even great, and it introduced tons of people to the band, but when you explore the band's other material there's simply better material.
I heard of Modest Mouse thanks to this song too. Still my favorite from them
One of my (if not the) best songs ever written.
