Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. I'm in a real dilemma has to how to rate this one. On the one hand, it's a awesome top-class full-on progressive rock instrumental. But on the other hand, it really only lasts just a bit over a minute, with a 30 second soft lyrical fade out (also very nice). I wonder why they didn't develop it onto something more, certainly seemed most worthy. I though perhaps it's an intro into the track track (Man Alive), but if so, I've not detected any connections.
I'm going to sit on the fence with a 70 rating (B-)
