Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some tracks can have several thousand ratings)
This track is rated in the top 10% of all tracks on BestEverAlbums.com. This track has a Bayesian average rating of 78.9/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.2/100. The standard deviation for this track is 12.7.

This and X-Static.
Floaty's verses evoke physical floating and gentle rocking sensations (largely thanks to watery effects used I'm sure) which I find both satisfying and soothing.
Not a big fan of the chorus, though. Such mismatching of different song parts - which seems to be evident throughout the album - is probably the biggest hang-up for me to enjoy Grohl's songs without trying from my part. Most songs tend to feel more or less forced, like there are parts that don't belong with one another.
In hindsight who could have foreseen that Grohl's quite promising debut album might actually end up as remaining his most interesting effort, the best he can apparently muster?
There are some good fun tracks, kinda unique atmosphere going on, too, and nowadays I can even appreciate that the whole album is rough around the edges.
But in retrospect I wish Grohl would have ventured further in that direction instead of constantly trying to polish his music up to a point where it ends up sounding, and more importantly, feeling way too sterile for my taste.
You see, I had such high hopes for the man after hearing "Marigold" when Nirvana was still around, and for me Grohl never really delivered the goods so to speak. His debut also seems to drag on too much and simply falls short of really rocking my boat.
Grohl's a great guy - or so I've heard - but if by some freak accident Foos would disappear off the face of the music planet tomorrow, I wouldn't personally miss all that much if anything at all to be honest.
When some folks dub(bed) Grohl as a hard hitting machine - referring to his drumming - I kinda see what they mean. But I'd go a notch further still: it's as if he has more of a technical, straightforward and even relentless attitude towards making music rather than playful, intuitive and/or emotional one.
I can appreciate Grohl's obvious happy-go-lucky personality but as an independent artist he mostly leaves me cold. I don't know if it's a question of him seemingly trying far too much to make his music work or him just not being that creative songwriter to begin with.
I know he's very versatile musician, and a celebrated drummer, but I generally tend to find it incredibly hard to really relate to his music for some reason. For me Foos tend to sound very middle-of-the-road, often bland, and I just don't see much point in listening to music that leaves me mostly or entirely indifferent.
For me Grohl the musician is like an artisan who knows his trade inside and out, who knows all the little things and details that should make the magic happen, but who never really seems to be actually capable of pulling it off in the end - for some strange and probably cosmic reason, I might add.
Generic.
