Not a single comment for this song? Well I'll be the first. I don't think this is a great Dylan song. It tells a story but... verses seem thrown together kinda haphazard. Doesn't contain the poetry or rhythmic timing as other Dylan protest classics like "Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll" or "Who Killed Davey Moore".
I remember when Desire was first released and I'd never heard of Reuben Carter. Now the world has. Great song, now a classic.
I'd put this as his best song behind Tangled Up in Blue. It sounds grand, beautiful, and whimsical.
The raw energy in this song is incredible, defined by the violin and drums.
Bob Dylan's best, angriest song.
