I don't think there's really been a thread on here to discuss music videos. New one from Black Rivers (the brothers who made up Doves previously) dropped today, it's my favorite of the year:

What are others' favorite videos of the year thus far?

I attempted to start one a while back but it never totally caught on. Not really sure why it didn't.

I've been keeping an up to date youtube playlist of stuff from 2014 on my website. There's about 200 videos.

This is probably my favorite video of the year.

So like there could be a thread about why music videos are made in 2014. Like are they more relevant now rather than in the past? Has nothing changed?

They're far less relevant since MTV and video stations no longer have the kind of impact that they once had.

But, videos are probably easier to make now, so it has allowed smaller bands to make videos on a tight budget

Does a music video help a smaller band at all?

Potentially yes. But I'd generally advise a small band against making a video (if it will be a large expense), because it's less worthwhile than how that money could often be appropriated.

It all depends on if that small band manages to catches the eye of a major tastemaker with that video

That's not nice. Not every band can be Polyphonic Spree
