Smile A While by Brainstorma
Okay, don't judge this album by its cover - many surprises await inside.
"I consider BRAINSTORM and EIDER STELLAIRE as my two biggest discoveries of 2011. I must admit that I wasn't expecting much when I purchased BRAINSTORM's two studio albums mainly because of the low ratings on this site, which by the way leave me somewhat baffled. They were a German Jazz / Fusion band who began as FASHION PINK before changing their name to BRAINSTORM. It was a fairly new concept back then this idea of businessmen brainstorming ideas and they liked the meaning of that name in relation to their music. These guys were all virtuosos, playing the most complex passages with ease. It was when they were called FASHION PINK that the guys discovered the music of SOFT MACHINE, Frank Zappa, CARAVAN and the like and so they started to make more complex music. The keyboardist especially liked the sound of Mike Ratledge and Dave Stewart's distorted keyboards and promptly did the same with his. They also used echo effects and decided that what little vocals they did use would be in English. Now the album cover is controversial no doubt about it. It's one thing to dress-up like women ala Frank Zappa and MAX WEBSTER album covers both of which are hilarious, but to dress-up in women's undergarments ? I should mention that Roland the sax player would go on to play with both GURU GURU and EMBRYO." (progarchives)
Edit: If you like Hot Rats, you might also like this one as well - very much in common (except Beefheart... ) _________________ "And can’t you see you’re in on it?

Okay, the Insert BEA link does not work for now. What I have done meanwhile was to paste the lines below to a text editor and manually change the IMAGE_URL, ALBUM_URL and ALBUM_TITLE each time. You can get the IMAGE_URL by right-clicking on the album image and selecting "Copy Image URL" (in chrome). The ALBUM_URL is displayed on the browser as well. The ALBUM_TITLE you either type it by hand or copy-paste it.
Hope it helps.

Isaac Hayes' Hot Buttered Soul, second listen. The first track is complete genius. And, well, the second one too.
Edit : pfff, it's possibly overall-chart-good. Ridiculously gorgeous.

Thirsty Moon by Thirsty Moon
"A significant name of the German krautrock scene,THIRSTY MOON were found in Bremen in 1972 and started as a 7-member band. By the same year their eponymous debut was already recorded and released by Brain Records.
It consists of four short tracks and one epic jam, clocking at over 20 minutes. The album follows the typical German mode of Krautrock with strong inter-plays,long jamming and a lot of space for endless improvisational musicianship.Saxes are everywhere played by Willie Pape and ranging from smooth passages to abstract heavy parts. There is also some lovely percussion work throughout the listening, featuring also nice organ and groovy electric pianos.Vocals are English with a rough edge, which fit very much to the band's style, while the epic of the album conatins also a lot of spacey parts, characterized by the unbelievable saxes, the great percussion work and the smooth flutes.Sometimes it seems that the tracks are out of any logical structure, but repeated listening will give you the time and chance to appreciate THIRSTY MOON's undeniable talent.Headed mainly to fans of jazz and kraut rock with heavy emphasis on good jams and improvisations!"
