Y'all have confused me, I guess I'll just stop posting shit and just wait for the tourney to begin |
lol its k drako, I actually agree, part of the reason I like the tourneys is I like knowing who the music's coming from. IDK though, frankly I'm not gonna be on much for the next 14 days so ... yeah, you know, lemme know how bad 1st Day In loses by ( ) _________________

Why I didn't nominate Take Care baffles me.

I've now listened to the vast, vast majority of these albums more than once, and I can't help but feel there just aren't that many great albums in the tournament. There's maybe like ten or twelve that I'll be returning to. I mean, 20-25% isn't a terrible hit rate, but considering I was already familiar with a few of those it's just a bit disappointing. I'm not trying to put down people's nominations, everybody likes what they like and it would be strange if every album in this tournament appealed to me, but is anybody else having this issue? Like, I'm struggling to get excited about many of these matchups, because all too often it's just two albums that do nothing for me. Hopefully I get a bit more interested as we begin to sort the wheat from the chaff. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Yep. I mean it's an eclectic mix and I like it for that, but the matchups are often "album I think is alright vs album I think is alright". I'm still excited for how this tournament turns out, but there's some matchups that just seem bland. _________________

Tbh, I'm not a big fan of the open-ended format, where it's basically any album over 1500 (though I'm not opposed to putting rank restrictions on future tournaments). I enjoy tournaments more when they have some kind of unifying theme, maybe a bit more apples-to-apples comparisons and a way to connect discussions from one match to the next. Quality issues aside, I just don't see myself caring much about the winners of these matches.
Maybe I'm wrong, but even if it bombs, I think it was definitely an experiment worth trying. It will also be interesting to see how Listmeister's year tournament goes, assuming he still wants to run that.

Hm, I actually found it to be a rather strong pool of albums. There were only 3 or 4 which I'd say are potentially chart worthy for me, but I tend to be pretty strict on that. I rather enjoyed well over half of the albums for sure.

I'm ready to go as soon as I get a green light. No, scratch that. I'm ready to go once the first round of the 1500+ tournament is finished, but I don't want to start before then. After the 2nd round might be better.
My approach to these tournaments is, I wait until the match is posted, listen to the two back to back, then vote and comment. During the first round, that means that I'm usually hearing these albums for the first time (especially in this tournament).

Fair enough. I wasn't expecting to be turned onto a bunch of albums that would suddenly become favourites, but I'd say I found less than half of them enjoyable, which is a pretty poor return. Actually, of the albums I wasn't already familiar with (the vast majority of them), I only found three or four that I really liked (shout-out to joyofdivision, Necharsian, JasonConfused, and 19loveless91). Of course, it also lead me to reassess some albums, one being the fantastic King of Da Playaz Ball, and reminded me of a few gems I'd forgotten about, such as In Sides or Snowball, but I was just hoping for more. Glad to hear that others found a lot of stuff they liked though. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Oops, did I say that?
Well I retract it. My album is veritably mad dope, and I'm definitely ready to back it up. I just go through phases.
