Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 64.1/100, a mean average of 62.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 62.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 19.3.

A lot of this is very good. A very personal album, not readily accessible and not what you'd expect from Phil. But the tracks are solid and bare, quite raw too which is something quite brave to do.

It would have been better if this album would have had no sides.

Good album. Best 10 songs average is 85,8/100 and the album can get good 85/100. Best song is "Both sides" 95/100, followed by "Everyday" 90/100 and next "Can't turn back the years" and "We wait and we wonder" both 85/100. All other songs average/only just good.

At this point, even his bland work with a dying Genesis was more interesting.

He basically recorded a bunch of demos and handed them into Atlantic records as his new album. The reason being that the material was so personal for him he holed up at home for a while knocking these out. I'm fine with that as long as the song ideas are flushed out well -- but "raw cut" doesn't sound as good on Phil Collins as it would say for Radiohead or Wrens. He even approximated the sound of a guitar on keyboards. So there really was no excuse and in retrospect, even though i'm not a fan of record labels telling artists what to do, they should've said "F this" and "come back when these songs are more flushed out". However, there are still some arresting songs on here given they're just "glorified demos". The on-the-edge-of-heartattack "we fly so close" is probably my favorite. "everyday" also works well in demo form. But there could've been more upbeat numbers on this.
