Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.3/100, a mean average of 70.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.6.

HAIM returns on Something To Tell You and in doing so, presents a filler sound, less rhythmic as on their debut and leaning closer toward r&b and pop than indie rock. In doing so,m they lose some of the infectious pop-rock hooks that made their debut such an enjoyable listen. There are still elements of that original sound present, though, on tracks like Little Of Your Love and Ready For You, while a song like You Never Knew represents a more straightforward. pop-oriented sound for the band. At best, the infectious hooks, the uptempo atmosphere and the memorable choruses are there; at worst it's too much of the same without showing signs of maturity and evolution from the debut.
It's an alright album
This is a record that I do have to give some form of respect. Several songs on this record I do personally enjoy. As well as qualities that I look for in music. But not every song is aces. As well as the singles that came from this I am not a fan at all. This is one of those artist that personally got fucked over due to retail playing those singles constantly which entails that I probably can't look at them the same compared to other viewers. But at least compared to other artists I hear from the intercomms, they have talent and chops to get out of my wrath.
I'm not a fan of too much studio wankery. I'm definitely not a fan of forcing in current fads/trends into one's music just to "modernize" one's sound. Of that, Haim are guilty on their sophomore album.
I LOVED the pop/rock bliss of their first album, seemingly culled directly from 1987 with splashes of fleetwood mac and jacko's verbal ticks, laden with effortlessly catchy choruses, i was hoping they could build on that debut accomplishment. They tried, but i think they tried too hard with all the additional musical glitches. It also hurts that these songs feel like they're more "all chorus" than the last album, with less meat in the verses. But if you ignore those two points, then you'll see the same Haim from a few years ago.
I preferred their debut album by some distance, although this is still pretty good. Solid if not spectacular.
Definitely a lot more consistent than their last album, even if there aren't the instant highlights--though, "Want You Back" is song-of-the-year material.
