Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 80.2/100, a mean average of 79.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 80.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.3.

What might she have achieved if she hadn't passed away so young? Based on this album, which I think I'm right in thinking was a posthumous release, a huge amount.

It's an outstanding sophomore release, with great songs and accomplished vocals.

What a lose and what might have been.

What a voice Janis Joplin has and it is best displayed on this record. She demonstrates to us all aspects of her vocal on this record as she commands songs such as Cry Baby, A Woman Left Lonely and the powerful Me And Bobby McGee. She proves to us on here that there will never be another vocalist like her and she is solely unique in her tone, style and quality making this a vital and special record in the history of music. The arrangements on here are pretty great as well with some brilliant guitar and piano work to back up her voice. The opening track shows us this right from the start with it being an incredible blend of both instrumentation and vocal. Overall, there is still room for improvement on the release and unfortunately we would never be able to see this come to fruition but we can see from this record alone how phenomenal she was as an artist and can only imagine the elite level records she most likely would have gone on to create.

Really love Janis's voice. Wish she would have been able to record more albums before her untimely demise, but I guess it's useless to think about that.

Cry Baby, A Woman Left Lonely, McGee, and Get it While You Can are huge tracks. Just a damn shame she died before this could be completed. Despite that this remains one of the most monumental and era-defining albums ever made.
