Liverpool was the other city, besides Manchester, that was changed irrevocably by the onset of punk-rock. With future luminaries such as The Teardrop Explodes and Echo & The Bunnymen being the scene leaders, the sound was more eccentric, more psychedelic (The Beatles influence refusing to die despite their unfashionable status), even wistful - Liverpool's reputation as a port and dreams of far away places shaping the minds and hearts at work. Oh yeah, and ridiculous, elaborate names are a recognisable feature, stand up Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Turquoise Swimming Pools and (deep breath) the Revolutionary Army of the Infant Jesus.
It's a great collection proving what a fertile period the Post-Punk era was. There's cool in the 'Pool.
