I haven't been a consistent Skinny Puppy fan so I'll refrain from talking too much about the band as a whole. I loved their first three albums, then gave Too Dark Park a listen and while I didn't hate it, I found it harder to get into.
Regardless, I love Bites. Without a doubt, this is my favorite Skinny Puppy album. Assimilate grabbed my attention right away with its almost alien sound and haunting, yet catchy tune.
I also love how this album has a lot of hard hitting songs like Assimilate or Blood on the Walls, but it's balanced with a lot of surprisingly quieter moments as well such as Film or the bonus track Love. It really gives the album a much-welcomed sense of atmosphere that is rare for a lot of industrial music.
