Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.4/100, a mean average of 70.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 10.5.

I liked the dub and funky parts in the first half, with nice piano and synth lines. The best parts are when it gets into a nice groove of funky beats.
The album has a fair amount of musical diversity. I liked the jazzy horns or synthed horns on "A Touch of the Night". And there is even a rock guitar solo on "Gringatcho Demento".
I appreciated the clean and nuanced production throughout the album. However, it runs out of steam in the second half, becoming largely ambient without being all that interesting.
Overall it's an okay album with some impressive parts in the first half which sound important in the development of trip hop. I'd guess that's why it was chosen for 1001 Albums You Must Hear list.
Out of the Strange Cargo trilogy, this is my favourite. All credit to the genius of synth and sampling.
Quite forgettable..
