Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.9/100, a mean average of 76.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

Well, to elaborate a little bit more on jshawnano's comment, think about all those sheogaze revival bands out there right now. Yeah, you notice how the genre seems to just be growing bigger and bigger? Well, thank these guys. Of course it is ultimately MBV that influenced all of the bands, but these guys brought it back, and did a damn good job. If it weren't for them this genre would have been long-forgotten. It got it's ass kicked by grunge and brit-pop but I seriously think this genre is the superior because it shows much more musicianship than grunge does. Not to say bands like Alice IN Chains aren't great musicians, just saying that it takes a lot of work to make good sounding shoegaze. Not to mention this album is really fantastic. I recommend giving it a listen.

This album deserves a lot more credit than it's given. It helped spark the resurgence of shoegaze. It's lush and yet amazing and energetic at the same time. Truly an ahead of it's time album.
