The Dirty South is Drive-By Truckers' best album, and "Goddamn Lonely Love" is the best song from that album. That's saying something, and songwriting credit here goes to Jason Isbell, who was only in the band for a few years, but long enough to have contributed several of their greatest songs. This whiskey-drenched ballad is one of the most gut-wrenching things I've ever heard.

Jason Isbell is a great songwriter. This and his other contributions to the Truckers are excellent. "I'll take anything you got to kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love...."
