Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.2/100, a mean average of 74.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

This is an album that hasn't aged very well for me and I find myself enjoying it less and less with every listen. I think this is mainly because of the fact that the more I listen to it the more I start to see how many filler tracks there are on here. There are only 4 or 5 great songs on here and the rest just don't match up in quality. I think they seem to lack that infectious feel and raw energy that they had on the better tracks and I find the slower tracks to pass me by without me paying any attention. They do have a fantastic energy as a group though and they are consistent in maintaining their style. Overall, this record feels rough around the edges and without those 4 or 5 tracks this record would really struggle in my opinion.

The joy of albums is discovering the superior non commercial deep cuts within. Unfortunately with this, it's commercial hit 'Come Out And Play' is by far the best song. "Killboy Powerhead' is good as is the ska infused 'What Happened To You?' As for the rest, mediocre at best. Probably due to a vocal range that only seemed to have one setting. Still, it was early days for them. They got better.

Better than I expected. They did a good job identifying the potential hits on this album. The rest is more of the same, just not as good.

High energy album, with many great tracks in the first half. It's a shame that in the second half the overall level is lower, although Self Esteem and the title track keep it high enough to make Smash an excellent album.

This is the album of early adult youthful abandon for me. Great nostalgic tunes that get you up and about. Suffers from an element of juvenility but has integrity due to its honest self-expression. Unlike Anericana, there are few pretentions here.

Bad Habit is the greatest road rage song ever written. Self Esteem is what got me into these guys. When I was 10 years old this was a fantastic album It was just as powerful (to me) as Smells Like Teen Spirit for this era in music. I think pop-punk is a REALLY loose term to use on this band. They are probably as pop punk as Pennywise or Social Distortion. No... they don't sound like Blink 182 or Sum 41.
