1.) Keep the usual AOTD the same.
2.) Create a second daily album, maybe call it International Album of the day. The quirk is that the following countries are excluded: USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia (top 5 countries on overall chart).
Would add a more worldly flavor. More exposure to some of the other 190 or so countries. Something new, something interesting I hope. |
I like the idea and am prepared to give it a whirl for a few days to see what comes up, but it probably won't start happening until next week.
These are the top ten albums using roughly the same formula as the current chart of the day and excluding the above countries (these would more or less be the first ten albums out of the hat to give a flavour as how this might look):
Ágætis Byrjun - Sigur Rós
Discovery - Daft Punk
Homogenic - Björk
Tago Mago - Can
Exodus - Bob Marley and the Wailers
Takk... - Sigur Rós
Vespertine - Björk
( ) - Sigur Rós
Moon Safari - Air
Ege Bamyasi - Can
(N.B. Using the existing selection criteria, only 134 'world' albums currently qualify for AOTD.)

Just so you know.
That's all you posted

What about of the Week? Since there's clearly a fraction of the number being entered as there is from the big 5 you mentioned it may not warrant being every day...or is that too long a wait?

^ I think a better alternative would be to soften the criteria (for 'World' AOTD) a bit so more albums can qualify. At least enough for a year or however many days until an album can re-enter this version of AOTD.

Wouldn't it be better if the albums were chosen completely randomly, the only criteria being that it's not from those countries mentioned?
Then again, if none of the albums' songs have been rated, RFNaples' head might explode trying to figure out the best track...

He picks the most popular song, not the highest rated. Let's stop now before we become kidamnesiac.
